Opposition accuses Pashinyan of violating Constitution of Armenia

At a march in Yerevan, the “Resistance” movement demanded the Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation and pointed out that the authorities were ignoring the observance of the norms enshrined in the Constitution of Armenia.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that starting from April 25, the Armenian opposition has been holding protest actions against Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The protestors demand not to lower the bar on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh and exclude the possibility of Nagorno-Karabakh being included in Azerbaijan. At a rally held in Yerevan on July 1, the oppositionists said that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan blackmailed the Armenian society with a war so that the people did not object to new territorial concessions to Azerbaijan.

Today, participants of the march have gathered in Square of France and went from there to the building of the Constitutional Court of Armenia. In their hands, the activists were carrying a banner bearing an inscription “The Constitution of Armenia” and bound in chains. The protestors were also carrying photographs of arrested oppositionists. A police cordon was lined up in front of the building of the Constitutional Court, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reported from the scene.

Aram Vardevanyan, an MP from the “Hayastan” faction, has stated that “the Constitution does not work in the country.” “We have such realities when the authorities protect the building of the Constitutional Court from us, from the people, by lining up a police cordon in front of it. This government can only ignore the Constitution,” Aram Vardevanyan said. He has also added that it is possible to restore constitutional norms in Armenia only after the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan.

The organizers of the march have also noted that the authorities are doing everything to appoint their affiliated people as judges in the Constitutional Court, and “moreover, these are people who have no moral and professional rights to take the position of a judge.”

The participants of the march left the “Constitution” banner bound in chains near the building of the Constitutional Court of Armenia and continued marching to the presidential residence. The protestors were chanting slogans demanding the Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation.
