Workers of Rustavi metallurgical plant go on strike

Today, about 130 employees of the armature production shop of the Rustavi metallurgical plant have refused to start work. They are seeking a 30% increase in their wages and better working conditions.

Lavrenty Alaniya, the deputy chair of the Union of Trade Unions of Georgia, and Giorgi Tkemaladze, a Rustavi representative of the trade unions of metallurgists and miners, met the strikers, the “Rustavi-2” TV Channel reports on its website today.

Part of the Rustavi metallurgical plant’s employees went on strike, the news portal “Netgazeti” reported. According to Tamaz Dolaberidze, the deputy chair of the Association of Trade Unions of Georgia, up to 130 workers of the armature production shop are on strike. Several employees remained at work and will monitor the proper operation of the plant units, the news portal “Netgazeti” reports. Tamaz Dolaberidze noted that on June 29, the workers had a meeting with the administration of the plant, at which the management refused to meet their demands.
