Car driver detained after crashing into opposition tents in Yerevan

The police detained a driver and two passengers of a car that drove into opposition tents in the capital of Armenia. No one was injured, the police report.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported about protesters staying in Square of France in Yerevan and demanding the resignation of the Armenian Prime Minister, the end to political repressions, and the release of activists detained at recent rallies.

“A car drove into the oppositionists’ tents with people in front of the eyes of the police,” Anna Mkrtchyan, an MP from the “I Have the Honour” bloc, wrote on her page in Facebook*.

Anna Mkrtchyan also added that “there were a lot of policemen on the territory, but they did not stop the actions of the car driver.”

The protests in Yerevan are being accompanied by mass detentions and clashes. The largest incident occurred on June 3, when 39 policemen and 21 protestors were injured. The Investigating Committee of Armenia reported that 15 people were detained in a case on mass riots.

*On March 21, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
