Ingush student, Ali Dzeitov, intends seeking compensation from Egyptian authorities

Ali Dzeitov, a resident of Malgobek, acquitted by a court in Egypt under the case of extremism and espionage, has returned home; his flight was paid by his family. During his custody, his health deteriorated; he was also expelled from the university; and he would like to seek compensation from Egyptian authorities, Ali has stated. Magomed Mutsolgov, a human rights defender, has pointed out that there are no legal ways to receive compensation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 20, it became known that a court in Egypt had acquitted Ali Dzeitov, a student from Ingushetia.

Five students from Ingushetia were detained in Egypt back in August 2018, and accused of extremism, espionage and links with the "Islamic State" (IS)*, a terrorist organization. In January 2021, three of them were deported to Russia. Ali Dzeitov then reported on the pressure by law enforcers.

"He is exhausted morally and physically … He slept there for almost four years on a concrete floor," said Isa Dzeitov, Ali's father.

According to Ali Dzeitov, he would like to receive compensation for what he had experienced. "They kept me in terrible conditions for four years. I was far from my relatives, and I lost my health and chances to study. In fact, they ruined my whole life," he said.

From the very beginning, the situation with the Ingush students "was outside the legal field," Magomed Mutsolgov, a lawyer, has stated. According to his version, there are practically no legal ways to obtain compensation from Egypt.
