Transgender women complain about beating in Tbilisi
Several dozen men have beaten up and threw stones at five transgender women in Tbilisi, the victims have complained.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Georgia, transgender people are periodically attacked. Thus, on October 31, 2021, two residents of Tbilisi attacked two transgender women with knives; one of them later died.
According to one of the victims, a certain man came to their home and demanded to provide sexual services; and after they refused, he insulted them, threatened to kill and called several of his acquaintances, the "Formula" TV Channel has reported.
When other transgender women living in the same apartment returned home, they met this man along with about 30 other males. The women were beaten up, and stones were thrown at them.
Let us remind you that on April 30, 2020, a transgender woman set herself on fire at the Tbilisi Mayoralty in protest against the increase in transphobia she had faced during self-isolation.
Earlier, human rights defenders had pointed to the growth of aggression against LGBT people in Georgia. Nino Lomdjariya, the country's Ombudsperson, has called on the Georgian authorities to design a strategy to address sexual minorities' problems.
