Protesters' clashes with law enforcers occur in Yerevan

Yerevan policemen tried to squeeze protesters away from the gates of the blocked residence of the Armenian President, after which clashes broke out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since April 25, in Armenia, the opposition has been holding protests demanding the resignation of the country's Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, after he agreed to "lower the bar" on the Karabakh issue. On May 24, activists blocked the government building, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia is located. Protest leaders have urged city residents to join the protests.

Today, from early morning, the opposition has resumed protests in Yerevan, in particular, activists blocked the entrances to the building of the residence of the President of Armenia and the building of the country's Security Council. A large police force was brought to the venues.

Protesters' clashes with policemen occurred near the presidential residence. Law enforcers tried to push protesters away from the residence gate.

After the activists unblocked the residence, the situation has stabilized.

Participants of disobedience actions are also marching along central streets of the Armenian capital, chanting "Nikol is a traitor" and "Armenia without Nikol".

The opposition is holding its protests strictly within the bounds of the law. The aim is to draw public attention to the situation around the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, Aram Vardevanyan, an MP from the "Armenia" bloc, has stated. "We've reached a critical point, and we'll not get tired; we'll not back down from our struggle, we are committed. Even more people came out to protest today from early morning than yesterday," the "News.am" quotes Mr Vardevanyan as saying.
