Number of oppositionists detained in Armenia increases to 237

In Yerevan, 209 activists were detained for failure to obey the police, and 28 more people were taken to police stations in the regions of Armenia, the Armenia police reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, the opposition has resumed actions of disobedience in Yerevan and blocked several streets.

According to Zarzand Gabrielyan, the chief of the Media Relations Department of the Armenian police, all the detained activists are accused of failure to obey lawful demands of the police.

Let us remind you that indignation in Armenia was caused by Nikol Pashinyan’s statement about the possibility of “lowering the bar” on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. On April 22, the Prime Minister of Armenia explained that he ruled out the signing of documents with Azerbaijan without discussion with residents of Karabakh. However, on the same day, Arthur Vanetsyan, the leader of the “Fatherland” Party, announced actions of disobedience with the aim of “resigning the authorities.” On May 1, opposition marchers from four regions of Armenia came to Yerevan and joined opponents of Nikol Pashinyan.
