Police detain 11 protesters in Yerevan

The police reported about the detention of 11 people at a protest action in front of the building of the Armenian government. Street protests against the revision of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh were supported by students of Armenian universities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 28, oppositionists held marches to Yerevan from the Armavir and Aragatsotn Regions, demanding resignation of Premier Pashinyan and his government. During the marches in Yerevan, 39 activists were detained.

Today, participants of the protest actions, organized by the Republican Party of Armenia and the Reformist Party, have attempted to get to the government building, but the police have blocked their way and begun to detain the activists. The remaining activists have continued their protest by chanting: “Armenia without Nikol”, the “News-Armenia’ reports.

Eleven people have been detained near the building of the Armenian government today. According to the press service for the Armenian police, nine persons have been detained on suspicion of failure to obey to lawful demands of the police, and two others – on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons, the “Aysor.am” reports.

In addition, today, in Yerevan, young people are holding actions in a number of universities with the motto “Student, Wake Up!”. In particular, students have come to the building of the National Agrarian University with flags of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The police did not want to let the students hold the action, but one of the university teachers convinced the police that the students had the right to enter the university building. After that, the protesters have entered the university building, calling on all students to join the fight. The young people have also planted a flag of Nagorno-Karabakh in the yard of the university, the publication reports.
