Political analysts assess drawbacks of Armenian opposition

Opponents of Nikol Pashinyan have no public trust since the time when they themselves were in power, Akop Badalyan, a political observer, believes. The strength of the ruling power lies not in its legitimacy, but in the fact that the opposition is heterogeneous and fragmented, Alexander Iskandaryan, a political analyst, has noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that street protesters in Armenia demand the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister.

The Armenian opposition has no positive action programme; its calls to change one group of politicians for another is not a programme, Alexander Iskandaryan, a political analyst, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mr Iskandaryan treats the chances of the opposition to achieve Pashinyan's and his govt's resignation as low. "And it's not because of the high legitimacy of the current authorities or distrust of the opposition; we've returned to the situation that was under Republicans: weak government and weak opposition," he has stated, adding that the opposition is heterogeneous and fragmented; it has no confidence in the society.

At the current stage, Akop Badalyan, a political observer, sees no prerequisites for Pashinyan's resignation. According to his version, in public perception, the distrust of the opposition, which has initiated the protest movement, is even greater than the distrust of the authorities.

Mr Badalyan does not believe that the opposition had made a mistake due to which it has lost support. According to his story, there is no trust in the opposition in the society; and this distrust is rooted in the era when the opposition was in power.
