Participants of two marches in Armenia demand govt resignation

Supporters of the opposition have started their marches to Yerevan from the Armavir and Aragatsotn Regions, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his government.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that for several days now, protests have been held in Armenia demanding the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan, the Premier. On April 27, oppositionists held three marches in Yerevan. According to the police, 52 people were detained there that day.

Today, two groups of opposition supporters began marching to Yerevan from the "Sardarapat" Memorial Complex and from the grave of the Armenian commander Dro (Dastamat Kanayan) in Aparan, Gegam Manukyan, an MP from the "Aiastan" parliamentary faction, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

This is an action in defence of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia's territorial integrity, the MP has explained. "And for this it is necessary to achieve the resignation of the Pashinyan's government, whose policy is contrary to national interests," Mr Manukyan has added.

According to his story, the starting points of the marches were chosen not by chance. "In 1918, the Armenian people proved in the battle of Sardarapat and Bash-Aparan that they are able to defend themselves and restore their statehood, despite the numerical superiority of the enemy," he has explained.
