Opposition supporters detained at a protest in Yerevan

The police detained eleven protesters near the building of the Armenian government, who demanded the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the second day of street protests ended on April 26 with a march of opposition supporters and blocked roads in the centre of Yerevan. In the afternoon, the activists blocked Komitas Avenue at the intersection with Gyulbenkyan Street, laid car tires on the roadway, and set them on fire. After that, three persons were arrested on the charge of hooliganism.

Today, supporters of the “Liberation” movement have went to the government building in white coats, gas masks, and disinfectants. In their hand, some activists were also holding posters with the demand of the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reported with reference to a live streaming from the place of the action on the Facebook* page of Ara Zograbyan, the leader of the “Zartonk” Party.

According to the author of the live streaming, the activists went to the government building “to disinfect the country from vices and debauchery.” The police set up a cordon at the intersection of Tigran Mets Street with Republic Square and did not let the activists approach the building of the Armenian government. A skirmish began between the activists and the policemen, which ended in detentions.

Zarzand Gabrielyan, the chief of the Media Relations Department of the Armenian Police, informed the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that eleven activists had been detained.
