Political analysts sceptical on prospects for changing power in Armenia

In the opinion of political analysts, the Armenian society has a great demand for changing the state power. However, in their opinion, the opposition lacks the due resources to oppose Nikol Pashinyan's power.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 17, Arthur Vanetsyan, the leader of the "Airenik" Party, and his supporters announced a round-the-clock protest action in Yerevan. The activists, Nver Kirakosyan and Arthur Avagyan, joined them and went on a hunger strike aiming to draw people's attention to the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh status; and on April 21, they collected almost a thousand signatures from their supporters.

On April 25, the decisive stage of the struggle will begin, Arthur Vanetsyan has stated. On that day, he announced the start disobedience actions that would force the authorities to resign.

The opposition has insufficient public support to change the power, Akop Badalyan, an observer for the "1in.am portal", has stated. Besides, in his opinion, the opposition has no goal of taking power into its own hands.

"The opposition understands that it has no sufficient social base that will allow it to come to power," the observer has explained.

Naira Airumyan, the editor-in-chief of the Russian version of the "Lragir.am", believes that Vanetsyan has a chance only if he gains support of external forces, in particular, from Russia.

A change of power requires support of external forces, for example, of the United States and France, as well as a clear thesis that unites the society, Andrias Gukasyan, a political analyst, have stated. According to his version, the only thesis capable of resulting in a change of power is the abandoning of the military alliance with Russia and the choice of Armenia's independent external course.
