After detention of official, Altan Ochirov, in Kalmykia, rights defender demands to check law enforcers' actions

Valery Badmaev, an oppositional journalist and human rights defender, has demanded from investigators to check the information about the use of physical force during the detention of Altan Ochirov, an employee of the administration of the city of Elista, the capital of Kalmykia. Ochirov has been accused in the case of spreading fakes about the Russian Army. His advocate has submitted a complaint against the court judgement to arrest him.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 13, the court arrested Altan Ochirov for two months under the new article that envisages sanctions for spreading false information about the Russian Armed Forces. According to investigators, from his office computer, Mr Ochirov ran a Telegram channel, in which he criticized the actions of Russian militaries in Ukraine.

"Now, a video showing Ochirov's being beaten up during detention is circulated in social media. In my opinion, the illegal use of physical violence is clearly seen in law enforcers' actions," Valery Badmaev, the editor-in-chief of the oppositional "Sovremennaya Kalmykiya" (Modern Kalmykia) newspaper, has explained.

The video of the cruel detention of the "alleged admin of the 'Volny Ulus' (Free Village) Telegram channel" was posted by the "Baza" Telegram channel.

Altan Ochirov has been arrested until June 12, Valery Badmaev has added.
