Court in Grozny leaves Zarema Musaeva under arrest

The Staropromyslovskiy District Court of Grozny has extended until June 12 the arrest of Zarema Musaeva, who is accused of attacking a law enforcer.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 10, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya refused to transfer Musaeva under house arrest due to her health condition. Judge Dmitry Gorbovtsov has self-withdrawn from Musaeva's case, referring to his close relationship with her husband, a former federal judge, Saidi Yangulbaev. Judges may use self-withdrawal as a sort of a trick, lawyers believe. However, Ruslan Kutaev, an activist, is sure that authorities will manage to find a judge who had not worked with Musaeva's husband; and he will pronounce a guilty verdict.

According to the Telegram channel of the "Committee against Torture" (CaT)*, the total time of Musaeva's custody makes four months and 13 days.

Zarema Musaeva has diabetes mellitus with complications; and such patients cannot be kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison), said Musaeva's son, Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer.
