Court in Dagestan extends Gadjiev's arrest

The Southern District Military Court has left Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) portal, accused of financing terrorism, in custody for other three months. Gadjiev had condemned terrorism and never called in his publications to abandon the secular lifestyle, Ziyautdin Uvaisov, a human rights defender, asserts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 14, Arsen Shabanov, a lawyer, said that linguists had analyzed 26 of Gadjiev's texts and found no signs of extremism in them.

Ziyautdin Uvaisov, who is one of the defence witnesses, told the court that Gadjiev was an opponent of terrorist organizations, while his publications called for observing the laws in force in the country.

Dagestani journalists are regularly holding pickets in Makhachkala in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. On April 18, two solo pickets were held and faced an approving reaction of Makhachkala townspeople.
