Complaint about torture of Vladikavkaz native Tumgoev filed to Prosecutor’s Office
In her appeal to the Prosecutor’s Office, a sister of Timur Tumgoev noted that her brother, a native of Vladikavkaz, was tortured in a penal colony in the Vladimir Region while being transferred to a prison. The sister of the convict asked the Prosecutor’s Office to launch a check.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Timur Tumgoev, a native of Vladikavkaz, took part in a hunger strike held by prisoners of the Saratov colony, and cut himself in protest against custody conditions. On June 2, 2021, his advocated stated that Tumgoev was being provoked because of his faith and wearing a beard. On November 10, the court sentenced Tumgoev to eight additional months of freedom deprivation under the case of disorganizing the work of the correctional institution (colony).
The sister of Timur Tumgoev sent an appeal to the prosecutor in charge of supervising the observance of laws in correctional institutions with a request to conduct an investigation on the complaint filed by her brother. “From February 9 to February 16, my brother Timur Khusenovich Tumgoev was kept [on the territory of a penal colony in] the Vladimir Region. He was subjected to torture,” says the appeal, a copy of which Marina Tumgoeva has submitted to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent today.
According to his sister, the convict told an advocate that during the transfer to a prison in the period from February 9 to 16, he was regularly beaten and abused because of his religion, in connection with which he twice tried to commit suicide.
