Relatives of KBR athlete demand to investigate his death

On February 1, Aslan Kambiev, a winner of the Russian and European championships in judo and sambo, received a gunshot wound from which he later died, but the attacker is at large, and the investigation is inactive, Kambiev's relatives have stated in their appeal to the head of the branch for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

On February 1, in Nalchik, in Lermontov Street, during a quarrel, Aslan Kambiev, a well-known athlete, a winner of the Russian and European championships in judo and sambo, received a gunshot wound. On March 8, 2022, he died in the Sklifosovsky Clinic in Moscow, despite doctors' efforts to save his life, Aslan's relatives told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

On April 13, the relatives turned to Andrei Potapov, the head of the KBR's Branch of the ICRF, asking him to take the inquiry into Aslan's murder under his personal control.

"Members of the investigating team have failed to properly conduct the urgent investigative actions," the athlete's relatives have noted. "Records were not removed from surveillance cameras; eyewitnesses and accomplices in the crime were not identified and interrogated; the man who shot Aslan Kambiev was not put on the wanted list; he was not detained and was not taken into custody," the relatives' appeal asserts.

The authors of the appeal insist on an objective and comprehensive investigation; therefore, they asked Mr Potapov to take the inquiry under his personal control.
