Criticism of Medinsky gives Kadyrov chance to demonstrate his loyalty to Putin

By criticizing the position of the Russian delegation at talks with Ukraine, Kadyrov is trying to curry favour with Putin, at the same time claiming to increase his importance, the experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have pointed out.

When commenting on the round of Russian-Ukrainian talks held in Istanbul, Vladimir Medinsky, a presidential assistance and the head of the Russian delegation, said that Kiev had handed over to Moscow its written proposals for a peace treaty, which became "the Ukraine's first concretely formulated written desire for a compromise." According to Medinsky, Russia has also "formulated two big steps in response," one of which is a gradual military de-escalation in the Kiev and Chernigov directions, and the second is a possibility of meeting of the two presidents, the TASS reported on March 29. On the same day, Kadyrov criticized Medinsky. "We'll make no concessions. It was Mr Medinsky who made a mistake, and made the wording wrong," the head of Chechnya has stated in the video posted on his Telegram channel.

Ramzan Kadyrov is publicly criticizing Medinsky, the head of the Russian delegation at the talks in Istanbul, as he is trying to curry favour with Putin, Dmitry Oreshkin, an independent political analyst, has stated, noting that "Kadyrov is fighting for his propaganda points, and very successfully." Mr Oreshkin is sure that disagreement with Medinsky is Kadyrov's own initiative. "He picks up the moods and tries to fit in with them. However, he probably has some people in the Kremlin who advise him how to behave," Mr Oreshkin has concluded.

By blaming the weakness of Medinsky's position, Kadyrov declares what Putin wants to hear, Ruslan Kutaev, President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, believes. "Kadyrov said what Putin thinks. And the General Staff and the negotiators are people of real politics. (...) Kadyrov just thinks in terms of Putin," Mr Kutaev has stated.
