Azerbaijani oppositionist Elkhan Aliev on hunger strike for fourth day in SIZO
Elkhan Aliev, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, has been on a hunger strike in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) since March 19. The defendant has been protesting against his arrest and loss of money during the detention.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 19, Elkhan Aliev was arrested for 30 days on the charges of failure to obey to the police and petty hooliganism. Elkhan Aliev is being persecuted because of his opposition activities, states Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).
According to Natig Adilov, the chief for the PFPA’s press service, Elkhan Aliev lost 2500 manats (1500 US dollars) during his detention. The activist was detained by the police when he was driving his car. “Law enforcers dragged Elkhan Aliev out of his car and twisted his hands.”
Elkhan Aliev feels sluggish, but he does not suffer from any serious health problems yet, Natig Adilov notes.
