State Duma MPs hear Kadyrov's call to extend law on fakes to "Rosgvardiya"

On March 5, Ramzan Kadyrov addressed the State Duma MPs, urging them to expand the law on fakes to assume also liability for false publications about the "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard). The State Duma MPs will update the law by adding the responsibility for spreading fakes about the "Rosgvardiya" and other organizations participating in the special operation, Alexander Khinshtein, an MP, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 4, the State Duma MPs adopted a law on amendments to the Criminal Code, which provide for imprisonment for spreading fakes about the actions of Russian militaries that discredit the army, and for calling for sanctions against Russia.

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has supported the adoption of the law on fakes. However, in his opinion, the law needs to be supplemented. "In the adopted wording, the law means disinformation concerning the actions of the armed forces of the Russian Federation only. It doesn't include the actions of the 'Rosgvardiya', as well as of other units outside the armed forces, but also performing the combat operations," Kadyrov has stated.

Alexander Khinshtein, who is the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy and Communications, has reported that the MPs will finalize the law on responsibility for fakes about the Russian Armed Forces, noting that "General Kadyrov has raised a reasonable issue." Mr Khinshtein pointed out that "Rosgvardiya" units are actively participating in the special military operation.
