Azerbaijan announces shootout on Armenian border

Armenian soldiers have shelled the positions of Azerbaijani militaries located in the Tovuz District, after which a return fire was opened, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Baku and Yerevan are periodically exchanging accusations of shelling. Thus, on February 23, the Azerbaijani MoD spread a message that Armenian soldiers had opened fire on the positions of Azerbaijani militaries located in the Kelbadjar District. On the same day, the Armenian MoD refuted the information.

In the evening on March 2, Armenian militaries shelled the positions of Azerbaijani servicemen, the latter's MoD has claimed. "On March 2, from 8:50 p.m. to 9:16 p.m., units of the Armenian Armed Forces from their positions deployed in the dwelling settlement of Chinarly, Tovuz District, shelled the positions of the Azerbaijani Army in the direction of the dwelling settlements of Kyokhanabi and Esrik Djirdakhan of the Tovuz District," the Azerbaijani MoD stated in a press release received today by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Azerbaijani militaries opened a returned fire; there were no dead or wounded persons among them, the MoD has added. As of 10:00 a.m. Moscow time on March 3, there were no comments on the website of the Armenian MoD regarding the Azerbaijan's statement about the shelling.
