“International Memorial”* liquidated
The Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by the defence about the decision to liquidate the “International Memorial”*.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 11, 2021, the Supreme Court notified the “International Memorial”* (the International Historical, Educational, Charity and Human Rights Society “Memorial”) that the General Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit for its liquidation due to the lack of labelling on the status of a foreign agent. On December 28, 2021, the Supreme Court (SC) granted the claim. The defence appealed against the Court’s decision.
The Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court pronounced a decision to liquidate the “International Memorial”*. “The appeal is denied, the decision is left unchanged. The decision to liquidate the ‘International Memorial’* has entered into force,” reports the “Polny PTs” Telegram channel.
It should be noted that on December 29, 2021, the Moscow City Court also pronounced a decision to liquidate the Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial”*. The execution of both judgments should be postponed until the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) on a complaint filed by Russian NGOs about the law on foreign agents, the European Court states. On February 14, it became known that the defence filed an appeal against the decision of the Moscow City Court.
* The organization is included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in the register of NCOs performing the functions of a foreign agent.
