Ingushetia: on February 23, mourning and festive events were held in different cities
A mourning rally on the 78th anniversary of Vainakhs' deportation was held on February 23 in Nazran, while the events dedicated to the Fatherland Defender Day were held in Malgobek. Deportation victims should not be forgotten, but the memory of those who perished in battlefields should also be honoured, said Issa Kostoev, an adviser to the head of Ingushetia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2021, the events on the occasion of the anniversary of the Vainakhs' deportation and the celebration of February 23 in Ingushetia were separated in time and took place in different locations, but the leaders of the republic at the mourning meeting mentioned the holiday date.
On February 23, a mourning event dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the deportation of the Ingush people was held at the Memorial Complex to the Victims of Repressions in Nazran, Murad Daskiev, the Chairman of the Council of Teips (family clans) of Ingushetia, has informed. People gather here to commemorate those who died during the years of deportation in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, he said.
According to tradition, the participants read prayers in memory of the dead, and performed the Muslim rite of zikr. Everyone who wished spoke to the audience; and almost everyone, speaking about his personal grief, touched on the problem with the Prigorodny District (North Ossetia), from where most of the Ingush population was expelled and whose ancestral lands are still in the territory of another republic.
Mourning events were also held in all the mosques of the republic.
On February 23, amid the mourning events, Ingushetia also celebrated the Fatherland Defender Day, the advisor, Issa Kostoev, has concluded.
