Refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh demand official status

At their protest action in Yerevan, refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh, who lost their homes as a result of the 2020 war, have demanded official status from the authorities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh are periodically holding protests in Yerevan, where they demand from Armenian authorities to grant them the refugee status and assistance, in particular, with housing.

On February 18, refugees from Karabakh gathered in Republic Square in Yerevan and demanded to provide them with official status. "We should be granted the political refugee status," Vagram Melkumyan, one of the protesters, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The man has explained that he had repeatedly addressed Armenian authorities, the Yerevan-based UN office and the French Embassy in Yerevan. "Unlike the rest, only the French Foreign Ministry has responded. If it is impossible to provide a roof over our heads in Armenia, I'm afraid we'll have to turn to France for shelter," Mr Melkumyan has stated.
