Salim Khalitov requests compensation for his arrest
Dagestani activist Salim Khalitov filed a lawsuit with a request to recover 768,420 roubles from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) as moral compensation for unjustified placement under administrative arrest.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that after the elections to the State Duma and the People’s Assembly of Dagestan, held in September 2021, Salim Khalitov held a series of protest actions. On October 14, 2021, Salim Khalitov was detained on the square, and on the other day, the court arrested him for 10 days for disobeying the police. In the detention centre, Salim Khalitov went on a dry hunger strike. On December 8, the court of appeal cancelled the decision on his arrest, and upon a new consideration, the court terminated the criminal proceedings.
Today, lawyer Marat Ismailov, who represents the interests of Salim Khalitov, has informed the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that the lawsuit for the recovery of compensation for moral damage was sent to the court by mail on February 16.
The illegal actions of the policemen led to the fact that Salim Khalitov was illegally arrested for 10 days, which he served in the special detention centre of the Russian MIA’s Department for Makhachkala, as a result of which he suffered moral harm and must be compensated, the lawyer notes.
The plaintiff considers the amount of 768,420 roubles to be fair compensation for the non-pecuniary damage. Salim Khalitov asks to recover the compensation for non-pecuniary damage from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
