Relatives doubt the version of detainee's death in Yeisk

Ilya Smolin, a resident of Kuban (the Krasnodar Territory), died after being detained in the city of Yeisk due to his heart problems, the police have informed. His parents have drawn attention to the haematomas on the body of their son, and demanded that a prosecutor's examination to be held of the circumstances of his death.

The suspicions of the relatives of the deceased Ilya Smolin were announced today by Alexander Korovainy, a former deputy of the Yeisk District Council.

Ilya Smolin, 32, was detained on January 12 and placed into the temporary detention centre (known as the IVS) in Yeisk. The police officer who had detained him said that Smolin was wanted, but his relatives deny this, Mr Korovainy wrote on his Telegram channel today.

"He was placed into the IVS without any visible injuries and bruises. But he died there 10 days later. Relatives were informed about this only three days later; and even then it was done by strangers; and they could only achieve their son's body shown to them through the prosecutor's office. When they saw it, there were multiple haematomas on the son's body; and they took photos and video thereof," the publication says.

"The parents wrote an application to the prosecutor's office; they believe that their son was killed," Mr Korovainy has added.

Let us note here that the suspicions of Ilya Smolin's relatives arose amid the fact that the situation with the torture of those detained in Kuban differs from those detained in other regions.
