Activist from Khasavyurt District tells about aims of his pickets in Makhachkala

Eduard Ataev, a Dagestani activist, who has spent the night at the police station after his picket, has explained that the aim of his regular pickets in Makhachkala to stop illegal mining in the territory of the dwelling settlement of Endirey. Ataev also demands to suppress corruption in the Khasavyurt District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that policemen detained Ruslan Magomedov, an activist, who was holding a picket in Makhachkala on January 25 against the persecution of critics of the authorities. On the same day, Eduard Ataev was detained, who went out to a picket with a poster about corruption in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan.

Ruslan Magomedov (Akhalchi) remains at the police station, Marat Ismailov, a lawyer, has reported.

Eduard Ataev, an activist, released by the court ruling, said that he had been holding pickets in Makhachkala on a regular basis since the summer of 2021. "I demand to stop the illegal extraction of natural resources in Endirey. For the past 10 years, without any permits, they have been extracting sand and gravel from the settlement. We've turned everywhere – from regional authorities to the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, – there was no reaction," Mr Ataev has stated.
