Makhachkala: picketers demand to release journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev
On Monday (January 10), in Makhachkala, four solo pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev were held. Anna Bockler, a Russian journalist and painter, was among the picketers; she was holding a poster reading "Freedom to Journalism!"
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) portal are regularly held in Makhachkala. The last such action was held on January 3; the picketers were Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik", Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the portal, and Idris Yusupov, a journalist.
Gadjiev's colleagues treat the cases of pressure on media and persecution of journalists as an all-Russian trend. According to investigators, Gadjiev was engaged, together with Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" charity fund, and Kemal Tambiev, an entrepreneur, in raising money for terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims.
More people than usual came to support the picketers and watch the weekly pickets, said Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the "Novoye Delo" (New Cause) outlet.
Among those who came to support the picketers was Djambulat Gasanov, a lawyer who represents the interests of Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the shepherds, Nabi and Gasangusein Gasanguseinov, who were killed in 2016.
Mr Gasanov treats the "uncompromising position" of the "Chernovik" in covering the events related to the murder of the Gasanguseinov brothers as one of the motives for pressing the portal.
