Chechen gays Magamadov and Isaev complain about lack of doctors’ attention to their hunger strike

Chechen natives Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev have been refusing food in the SIZO (pre-trial prison) for the tenth day already, demanding to change the territorial jurisdiction of their case, but no warders of the SIZO have ever visited them. This was announced by a representative of the “SK SOS” Crisis Group.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on December 21, Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev went on a hunger strike, as the Achkhoi-Martan District Court refused to transfer their case to another region. Advocates filed a motion to transfer the case to a court in another region, since they did not hope for an unbiased trial in Chechnya. On December 29, witnesses confessed that they had signed ready-made testimonies.

Brothers Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev are accused of aiding and abetting a militant from a criminal group led by Aslan Byutukaev. The defendants reported that they had been forced to sign fabricated confessions. Investigators refused to investigate the brothers’ complaints about torture.

For the 10th day, Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev continue their hunger strike at the SIZO. At a court hearing held on December 29, the brothers handed over to the advocate a leaflet with a request to transfer the case to another region for consideration, the “SK SOS” Crisis Group reported.

After their detention in February, the brothers were accused of aiding and abetting a militant. The accusation is ridiculous, since Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev are LGBT members and atheists, while according to the investigators’ version, it was a supporter of the radical movement in Islam who agreed to support the militant, says Elena Milashina, an observer of the newspaper “Novaya Gazeta”.
