Relatives of Sochi resident Ipatov criticize investigators’ version about his suicide

Dmitry Ivannikov, a friend of Yevgeny Ipatov, a resident of Sochi, who recorded a video before his death in which he complained about torture by law enforcers, could disclose the causes of the Yevgeny Ipatov’s death. However, Dmitry Ivannikov does not answer phone calls, and the investigators’ version about the suicide of Yevgeny Ipatov is groundless. This was reported by Lyudmila Zyankina, a mother of the deceased man. Before his death, Yevgeny Ipatov was depressed, noted an owner of the hotel, near which the body of the Sochi resident had been found.

On December 24, the newspaper “Novaya Gazeta” reported that Yevgeny Ipatov was detained by law enforcers and then released, but several days later, he was found dead on railway tracks in Adler. The “Novaya Gazeta” released a video recorded by Yevgeny Ipatov before his death. In the video, Yevgeny Ipatov claimed that law enforcers tortured him in an attempt to force him to incriminate himself and confess to stealing 60,000 roubles from pensioners. Relatives of Yevgeny Ipatov did not believe in the police version about his suicide and appealed to the “Committee against Torture” (CaT).

Lyudmila Zyankina, the 48-year-old mother of the deceased man, complained that the police had not informed her about the death of her son. The woman believes in the version that her son was killed.
