Georgian citizen detained on South-Ossetian border

Georgian authorities demand to release the man detained near the village of Zemo Nikozi located on the border with South Ossetia, the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Georgian citizens were repeatedly detained on the borderline separating Georgia and South Ossetia. Thus, on December 10, two citizens of Georgia were detained near the South-Ossetian village of Tsinagara.

Georgian authorities are using all the available mechanisms for the immediate release of Georgian citizens, the "Georgia Online" has reported with reference to the SSS.

Restrictions on crossing the Georgia's borders with Abkhazia and South Ossetia violate the rights of residents of border villages; they cannot manage their households and risk being detained for crossing the border, says the report released by the human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI) on "borderization" in Georgia.
