YouTube users call on Dud to highlight practice of torture in Chechnya in more detail

Video blogger Yury Dud should visit residents of Chechnya and ask them about torture, YouTube users suggest. Chechnya has become a testing ground for the spread of torture throughout Russia, notes Lyudmila Kukhnina, a coordinator of the database compiled by the “Committee against Torture”.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 9, the human rights project "Gulagu.net" posted video evidence of violence and torture practiced against residents of Chechnya, Dagestan, Georgia and Azerbaijan at the above Saratov prison hospital. On December 7, video blogger Yury Dud released a documentary in which victims of torture shared their stories, and human rights defenders reported about their practice of investigating torture cases in Russia.

Today, YouTube users have drawn attention to the part of the Yury Dud’s film, which was devoted to the situation in Chechnya. So, user George Solovev notes that the shock from the announced information enters a new level when speakers report about Chechnya.

MorgenMufell Stirlitz, a user from Chechnya, called on Yury Dud to visit residents of Chechnya and ask them about torture. “I am a Chechen native, and for my long-suffering people, torture and persecution is an everyday life, and it doesn’t matter what you do! <...> There are thousands of worthy Vainakhs <...> who will tell you and the whole people a lot of interesting things!” the user wrote.

In the film, Lyudmila Kukhnina, a coordinator of the database compiled by the “Committee against Torture” (CaT), tells Yury Dud about the spread of the practice of torture from Chechnya to the whole of Russia. “In Chechnya, the sprouts of freedom have not died, but they are in deep, deep hibernation. It is dangerous to show any aspiration to freedom there. Everything is burned out in the bud. Now the practice has already come, so to speak, to the conditional rest of Russia <...> I mean a flywheel of repression, which is spinning, and the society can hardly do something with it. <...> The indifference frightens <...> Precisely because it exists, and it has come to all regions,” Lyudmila Kukhnina states.
