Publication by Azeri journalist on Armenian border sparks polemics in social media

Khadija Ismayilova, an Azerbaijani journalist, has called for accounting the international law when defining the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, referring to the country's map, recognized by the United Nations (UN). In their comments, Facebook users argued about the relevance of the map.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that by the outcomes of the aggravation of the Karabakh conflict in the fall of 2020, the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic lost control over two-thirds of its territory. This raised the issue of delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, which has not been defined since the collapse of the USSR.

On November 18, in her Facebook page, Khadija Ismayilova, an Azerbaijani journalist, posted a link to a section of the UN's website, which contains a map of Azerbaijan recognized by the international community, and called on to respect the international law.

Most of the commentators to the post spoke in a negative way.

"The war is not over. Armenia continues occupation of Lachin and Khankendi. That is why any provocation on the border must be responded to. A part of Karabakh is still under occupation," the user Vasif Efendi has stated.

"What border are you talking about? When has Armenia recognized the Azerbaijani borders?" the user Vugar Guliev has asked.

"Khadija khanum (a form of respectful address to a woman, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), how many citizens of Armenia have defended Azerbaijan as actively as you now defend the inviolability of Armenian borders?" the user Fazil Həsənov has asked.
