Saakashvili demands to admit his supporters to hospital

Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia, has demanded to let the MPs from the oppositional parties to visit him. He has stated that otherwise he will refuse taking the medicines prescribed by his doctors for recovering from the hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Saakashvili went on a hunger strike immediately after his arrest on October 1. His advocates, personal doctor and supporters sought to transfer Saakashvili to a civilian clinic. The Georgian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) made concessions only on the 50th day of his hunger strike, after Saakashvili was taken to the intensive care unit of the prison hospital after fainting. The politician was transferred to a military hospital, and on November 20 began taking food under doctors' supervision.

Mikhail Saakashvili has stated that if from November 26, the MPs of the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party, founded by him, and other oppositional MPs are not allowed to visit him at a military hospital, he will stop taking the medications prescribed by doctors for recovering from his hunger strike.

"For a week already, the MPs from the UNM and other oppositionists have not been allowed to visit me," Saakashvili said in his message posted on November 25 in his Facebook page. He has stated that he will only take the drugs that had been prescribed to him before his arrest.
