Twelve people detained at Moscow actions in support of "Memorial"

Moscow policemen have put the participants of a series of pickets against political repressions and the closure of the "Memorial" into a paddy wagon.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 11, the Russia's Supreme Court (SC) notified the "International Memorial" that the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) had filed a lawsuit to demanding liquidate the organization because of the absence of marking about the status of a foreign agent. The closure of the "Memorials" (of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" as well) will seriously harm the defence of human rights in Northern Caucasus, human rights activists, lawyers and journalists assert.

After the lawsuit to liquidate the HRC "Memorial", an electronic petition in support of the Centre was posted and gathered about 80,000 signatures.

On Saturday (November 21), Moscow policemen detained at least 12 participants in the pickets against the liquidation of the "Memorials", in particular, Vasily Mochalov and Andrei Badin, who held pickets against political repressions, the "OVD-Info" reports.

Victoria Ivleva, an author of the "Novaya Gazeta", and Yuri Samodurov, a public figure, are also among the detainees.
