Saakashvili starts eating under doctors' supervision
Getting out of a hunger strike is very complicate; and, doctors have drafted a special diet for Saakashvili and are monitoring his health condition, said a member of the former president's health monitoring council. Nino Lomdjariya, the Georgian Ombudsperson, will monitor the quality of Saakashvili's treatment.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 1, eight after his arrest, Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili went on a hunger strike. His advocates, personal doctor and supporters sought to transfer him to a civilian clinic.
Earlier, Georgian authorities have repeatedly expressed their doubts that Saakashvili is indeed hunger-striking. Thus, in October, the Minister of Justice said that Saakashvili was eating porridge and drinking juices.
Now, Saakashvili has begun to eat. His diet is prescribed in detail, because getting out of a hunger strike is very complicated, Nino Sharashenidze, a doctor and a member of Saakashvili's health monitoring council, has explained, the "InterPressNews" writes.
Ms Sharashenidze has noted that Saakashvili complains of headaches and other health problems that should go away with time.
At night on November 20, Saakashvili stopped his hunger strike on the 50th day thereof, immediately after being transferred to the Gori military hospital, the "Sputnik Georgia" informed with reference to Nikoloz Kipshidze, his personal doctor.
