Scandal with maroon berets of Chechen fighters damages "Rosgvardiya" reputation

The awarding maroon berets to Chechen law enforcers amid a scandal with their frauds during the tests has cast a shadow on the "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard), while the sign of merit itself is now associated with corruption, YouTube users have pointed out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 17, it became known about a conflict among "Rosgvardiya" servicemen during a speed march as part of the tests for obtaining maroon berets. The "Vityaz" fighters have claimed that law enforcers from Chechnya had received their maroon berets undeservedly, as they had been removed from the distance for deception – their friends gave them a lift in cars during the march.

In their comments to the video about the incident with maroon berets, most of YouTube users have criticized the "Rosgvardiya" leadership.

"We should stage a flash mob: call the 'Rosgvardiya' headquarters and ask how much is a maroon beret, and what room to bring money to," the user Ivan Vakhrushev has written sarcastically. "Business is business, nothing personal," the user Evgeny Morozov has noted.

"This factory for making superheroes in berets was a fake from the very beginning. There's no honour and dignity there," the user Dervish has added.
