Three policemen are accused of tortures in Georgia
The Georgian Public Prosecutor's Office has detained three policemen suspected of beating Alexander Hositashvili, 36, who died on March 15. Yesterday, on April 18, at a special briefing, Nika Gvaramiya, Deputy General Prosecutor, stated that the detainees had been charged of excess of powers and tortures.
On April 13, Mr. Hositashvili broke a glass of a trading stall and stole a bottle of beer in Digomi village. Policemen Gocha Sakhamberidze, Mamuka Chaduneli and Levan Gelbakhiani from the 6th Police Department of Tbilisi, who were called in to the scene, found the hooligan in the house of Hositashvili's relatives. After beating, they brought him to the pre-trial detention facility (SIZO), but he was not accepted there because of bodily blows, and the policemen took him to Gudushauri Hospital, where medical aid was rendered to him. However, he died a day later.
