Rights defenders claim threats in Chechnya to relatives of native of Dagestan

After four inquiries, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation failed to provide the court with materials on the complaint about investigators' inaction on the complaint about the kidnapping of Ibragim Selimkhanov, a native of Dagestan, by Chechen law enforcers. They threatened Selimkhanov's relatives who live in Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Chechen law enforcers kidnapped Ibragim Selimkhanov, a native of Dagestan, and tried to get information from him about the programme of helping LGBT people in the Caucasus, while law enforcers had refused to accept his application, the "Russian LGBT Network"* has reported.

Selimkhanov turned to the "LGBT Network"* back in November 2020 and complained of violence from his relatives due to his sexual orientation. Rights defenders helped him to leave for Moscow, after which he was put on the wanted list.

Then, human rights defenders went to court claiming investigators' inaction. After that, on September 27, law enforcers rushed to Ibragim's relatives in Grozny, demanding to find and inform them about Selimkhanov's whereabouts, the press service of the SK SOS Crisis Group has reported.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
