Journalists treat Gadjiev’s case a local episode of all-Russian trend

Today, in Makhachkala, journalist Idris Yusupov and Magdi Kamalov, a founder of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), have held solo pickets with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev. Cases of pressure on the media and criminal prosecution of journalists have become a “federal trend,” emphasizes Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that every week, in Makhachkala, activists hold pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a correspondent of the newspaper “Chernovik”.

According to investigators, Gadjiev, acting jointly with Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" charity fund, and Kemal Tambiev, raised 68 million roubles and 200,000 US dollars for terrorists under the pretext of helping Muslims.

Today, the solo pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev have been held at the intersection of Dakhadaev Street and Gamzatov Avenue in Makhachkala. The first solo picket with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev and stop criminal proceedings against him has been held by Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the “Chernovik”, journalist Idris Yusupov has told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent while commenting on the situation. The second solo picket demanding freedom for political prisoners has been held by Idris Yusupov himself.

In his interview to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent, Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”, has noted that the prosecution of the journalist is another stage of pressure on the media.

According to Magomed Magomedov, the local cases, such as the criminal prosecution of Golunov and Gadjiev, ceased to be isolated regional cases and turned into a “federal trend,” “when the authorities are already fighting not with individual journalists, but fighting the media at the systemic level.”
