Goris-Kapan highway opened for traffic
After negotiations with the participation of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russian peacemakers, motor traffic on the Goris-Kapan highway has resumed. Citizens of Armenia can safely drive along this highway, Gevorg Parsyan, the Mayor of Kapan, has informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Azerbaijani State Frontier Service reported an attack of Armenian militaries on a border guard in the territory of the "Gubadly" border-combat point. Armenia refuted the accusations. On August 25, Azerbaijani militaries blocked a section of the Goris-Kapan highway and stopped cars with residents of Armenia for several hours. Russian militaries entered into negotiations to get these people out of the blocked area. On August 26, militaries blocked another highway section. As a result, residents of the villages of Vorotan, Shurnukh and Bartsravan were left without motor communication; they had problems with supplies of foodstuffs and provision of medical help.
Azerbaijan has blocked the Goris-Kapan highway for Armenian residents in order to achieve concessions from Yerevan on the Zangezur Corridor, Beniamin Pogosyan, a political analyst, and Tatul Akopyan, the coordinator of the ANI Research Centre, have suggested.
