Results of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev contest organized by "Caucasian Knot": in 2021, we see more nominees

In 2021, the jury of the annual contest named in honour of the assassinated journalist of the "Caucasian Knot", Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev, considered 50 materials about the Caucasus. The first place was awarded to Alexei Pivovarov for the video report "Why Dagestan has become a hot spot on the epidemic map".

The interest in the contest grows year after year: for example, in 2016, a total of 25 publications were nominated.

Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev had worked as a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent for over seven years, covering the most acute topics. Since 2005, he cooperated with the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, and since 2006 – with the Dagestani newspaper "Novoye Delo" (New Cause). He was shot dead in a village near Makhachkala on July 9, 2013.

The second place was shared by five authors. In particular, Svetlana Anokhina and Asya Kurbanmagomedova investigated, in their article posted on the "Daptar" portal, the problem of female circumcision using the example of a nine-year-old Madina from Ingushetia. In his article "Kadyrov attacks journalists: direct and explicit threats" posted on the Voice of America, Danila Galperovich tells how the head of Chechnya, with the Kremlin's permission, created an atmosphere of fear in the republic and liquidated the freedom of media.

The third place was shared by five materials. Irina Tumakova told how two words – Nagorno-Karabakh – forced Armenia to make any concessions to Russia, expecting that it would protect Artsakh. Maria Klimova from the "Meduza"* wrote about crisis centres for women in Northern Caucasus. Also, the third place was awarded for the material by Ksenia Ivanova – she collected residents' memories about the war in Abkhazia and how the war affects their lives now – 27 years later.
