Melikov promises support to parents of Gasanguseinov brothers

Sergey Melikov, the acting head of Dagestan, has met Murtazali and Patimat Gasanguseinov in the village of Goor-Khindakh and planted trees in memory of their murdered sons. According to Murtazali Gasanguseinov, Melikov promised to help the family.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 28, 2021, the Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala satisfied the complaint against the investigator's refusal to initiate a criminal case against the former head of the Shamil District Police Division, who had reported that the Gasanguseinov shepherd brothers were killed as militants.

The father of the killed shepherds held numerous actions of protest and succeeded in seeking the institution of a criminal case on the killing of his sons – 17-year-old Nabi and 19-year-old Gasangusein – during a special operation in August 2016. The law enforcement bodies declared the killed brothers as militants, but the brothers' parents and their fellow villagers insist that the young men were shepherds and that they were simply grazing sheep in the mountains.

On July 21, Sergey Melikov visited the village of Goor-Khindakh and planted a tree in memory of the Gasanguseinov brothers, Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the killed shepherds, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

This visit was the fulfilment of the promise that Melikov had made during the first meeting with Gasanguseinov. "I am very grateful to this man who received and listened to us; he came here as promised and planted a tree near the monument [to the murdered Gasanguseinov brothers]," Murtazali said.

While talking to Murtazali and Patimat Gasanguseinov, Sergey Melikov emphasized that their grief has not been forgotten. The republic's leadership will continue supporting the family, says the message posted on the website of the head of Dagestan.
