Stabbing law enforcers in Grozny was the eighth attack in NCFD since May 2018

The armed incident in Grozny was at least the eighth attack on policemen with knives in Northern Caucasus since May 2018. Five attacks were committed in 2019.

According to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), on July 9, 2021, a Grozny resident, born in 1993, attacked policemen with a knife. Warning shots failed to stop him; and law enforcers had to open fire. The attacker was wounded and later died at hospital.

According to the "Caucasian Knot", it was announced that most of knife attacks on policemen since 2018 were committed by natives of Chechnya and Ingushetia.

Thus, on December 28, 2020, Timurziev brothers, natives of Ingushetia, were shot dead, when, according to law enforcers, they attacked policemen in Grozny. One policeman was killed, the other was wounded. The "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, claimed responsibility for that attack.

Five knife attacks on law enforcers were committed in Northern Caucasus in 2019. Thus, on December 31, 2019, in Ingushetia, two persons hit a traffic police inspector with their car, and then attacked the patrol unit with knives. One of the attackers was killed, and the second – Akhmed Imagozhev, a master of sports in arm wrestling, – was wounded. One policeman perished; and three other law enforcers were wounded.

On January 24, 2019, an attack was committed on traffic police inspectors in Nalchik; a policeman was stabbed. Four of the attackers died – they were declared as residents of Ingushetia. Their relatives said they knew nothing about the reasons for the attack; and the IS claimed responsibility for the attack.

In reality, IS had nothing to do with all the attacks, Akhmet Yarlykapov, a Caucasian scholar, pointed out in January 2020.
