Armed incident in Chechnya is the second in 2021
In Grozny, in the evening on July 9, an armed attack was committed on policemen using a knife, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported on July 10. The incident took place at the vehicle entrance to the Visaitovsky District of Grozny. The attacker was wounded by the fire opened from a policeman’s service weapon and hospitalized, and later died.
According to investigators, the attacker was a 28-year-old local resident. There are no victims among law enforcers.
The attack by a man with a knife on policemen in Grozny was the second armed incident in Chechnya since the start of 2021.
Earlier, on January 20, 2021, during a special operation conducted in an outskirts of the village of Katar-Yurt, five militants were killed, including the alleged grouping leader, Aslan Byutukaev. During the shootout, five law enforcers were wounded.
In 2020, there were five armed incidents in Chechnya; one of which also involved an attack on a police post, which resulted in attackers’ death; in another incident, the attackers also used knives.
