Ali Ozdamirov, native of Chechnya, extradited to Russia
A native of Chechnya, Ali Ozdamirov, has been extradited to Russia from Belgium; he is accused of an armed attack on a school in the village of Geldagan, Kurchaloi District of Chechnya, which resulted in the death of one person, and a theft of a large sum of money.
In 1996, Ozdamirov worked as a military teacher in the Geldagan village school. According to investigators, he had created an armed grouping with the aim of embezzling budget funds allocated for teachers' salaries and pupils' scholarships.
In April 1996, members of the grouping attacked the school and opened fire in it; they also captured a pack with money. The school principal was killed in the shootout; another employee was wounded.
