Makhachkala picketers demand to release Gadjiev and other political prisoners

At their solo pickets held in Makhachkala, colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev opposed his arrest and called for the release of all political prisoners. Eduard Ataev, an activist, held his action under a slogan against lawlessness.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gadjiev's colleagues and friends are regularly going out to solo pickets in Makhachkala demanding his release. During the two years of his arrest, Gadjiev's children saw their father only a few times, his wife said.

Gadjiev was arrested in connection with financing terrorism; he insists that he is innocent; and his colleagues treat his prosecution as pressure on him.

Idris Yusupov, a journalist, believes that the demand to release political prisoners, with which he came out to his picket, is relevant not only for Dagestan, but also for Russia as a whole.

Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, has noted that many people are appealing to his editorial board with complaints about the unjustified criminal prosecution of their relatives.
