Social media users consider fight against car tinting in Chechnya excessive

In the Kurchaloi District, the police reprimanded 14 detained drivers for tinting their cars, the chief of the local police department reported. Part of Instagram users criticized the Chechen law enforcement bodies for persecuting drivers of tinted cars.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in June 2020, Ramzan Kadyrov’s nephew Idris Cherkhigov ranked car tinting as a flagrant violation of traffic rules. After that, the Chechen police began to conduct raids more frequently, during which policemen forced drivers to remove window tinting straight on the road.

Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov associated the road accident rate on the roads of Chechnya with an increase in the number of tinted cars.

Let us remind you that earlier, in Chechnya, car owners have already complained about the police actions. So, in October 2017, local residents reported that the police demanded to remove the tint films from cars, and in some cases, policemen broke tinted windows of the cars.

Meanwhile, Chechen officials and Ramzan Kadyrov himself violate their own rules and drive tinted cars.

The police raids highlight inequality in the Chechen society, local residents believe.
