Police disrupt student protest in Baku
In Azerbaijan, university students have held an action against the new exam system, which, in their opinion, has aggravated the students' situation. Five protesters were detained.
The action was held on May 3 under the motto "Justice for Students" and was organized by the NGO "Students' Power Centre" (SPC).
According to Akhmed Mamedli, an activist, at the last examination session at the university, they introduced an innovation – they cancelled the tradition of giving all the examination questions to students in advance in order to get properly prepared for the exams.
"The aim is clear – to make exams harder so that more students cannot score due points for the scholarship. Moreover, those who failed to pass the online exam due to a power outage were obliged to submit a confirmation to this from the power grid. This caused discontent among students," he said.
Akhmed Mamedli has added that on the way to the police, he was subjected to physical and psychological pressure.
It should be noted here that in Azerbaijan, students' protests occurred earlier. On June 1, 2020, six students who demanded, at their actions held in Baku, to cancel summer exams and exempt students from paying for the second semester due to coronavirus were fined for violating the quarantine regime, one (Rustam Ismailbeili) was arrested for 15 days for disobeying the police.
