ECtHR requests information from Baku about Eldar Gasanov's health condition
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has reacted to the defence's complaint about the deteriorating health of the arrested diplomat Eldar Gasanov and sent a request to the Azerbaijani authorities about his health condition, his advocate has informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since August 2020 Eldar Gasanov is under arrest in connection with the case of employees of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) suspected of abuses, bribe-taking and embezzling budget money. Gasanov has declared his innocence. In March, his advocate announced worsening of Gasanov's health condition.
The ECtHR has sent an inquiry to the Azerbaijani government in connection with the condition of Eldar Gasanov, a former ambassador and prosecutor general, the "Meydan.TV" reported on April 29, citing the advocate, Djavad Djavadov.
Earlier, in its appeal to the ECtHR, the defence made a request to ensure an invitation of doctors of his choice to Eldar Gasanov, to conduct his examination in a private clinic and to achieve the surgery that had been planned before his arrest. "The ECtHR has considered our appeal and sent a document to the authorities that asked questions that the government should answer as soon as possible," the "Meydan.TV" has quoted Mr Djavadov as saying.
